DeepSeek V5 reportedly planned for training on Huawei Ascend chips
Frontier Chinese model training on domestic chips would mark a major step in decoupling from Nvidia.
Reports say DeepSeek plans to pretrain its next model, V5, on Huawei Ascend 950 chips, potentially completing training in 2027 and moving beyond inference. Huawei's 1,024-NPU Ascend 950 SuperPoD won a WIC award.
